Something is afoot at Hardcore Beats HQ. An undercurrent of excitement that is palpable. A commotion of such force, in fact, it’s been causing our sweatshop of organ grinders and elves to pause during their daily labours of record pressing, envelope-licking and beat-crushing.

Whose original idea it was to get one of the all-time heros of broken beat music to do us a couple of tracks has been somewhat lost in the din caused by the result. The consequent plan to have them remixed by three of the world’s biggest contemporary breaksmiths? Well that can only have come from the mind of an evil genius. A machiavellian scheme to unleash three of the hardest, most un-compromising, ball-busting tunes you’re ever likely to hear.

But first, who is this is hero of beat-hoppery I speak of? Well, if you haven’t heard of Si Begg its possible you’ve spent some time (probably quite a lot of time) under a rock. An exponent of eclecticism and purveyor of many forms including jazz, ambient, experimental, breakbeat and more – Si has released his music on a myriad of labels from Coldcut’s classic Ninja Tune to his own tantalizingly fresh Noodles Recordings.

This 3-part release includes a remix of Si’s tune "High Volume" by Kanji Kinetic, and two other remixes by Gella and VENT of another track, also by Si, called "Jump".

Kanji Kinetic, mashes up 4x4, breaks, drum and bass, grindcore and hardcore. Playing on the vocal sample, and bringing massive energy to the table with a standoff breakdown, Kanji drops a militant, percussive assault engineered to tear your house down and possibly rip your sound system a new one. Combining intense energy levels with meticulous and relentless beat programming this really is a technological masterpiece of audio cunning.

Next up, Hardcore Beat stalwarts VENT bring the ruckus with their remix of Jump using an eerie melody to set the scene for a moody tech-stepper which will set your teeth on edge and have your shackles raised before the mentasm slews whatever resistance you had left. Grinderful, funky bedlam just the way we like it.

Last but not least, new boy on the block Gella turns in a slightly more introspective number which builds on a breakstep groove layered with oodles of atmosphere and tension to drop into a dub-wise pressure drop sub bass and smokey, electro flavours. Proving he is a force to be reckoned with in 2010 this is future funk from the next millennia and will be dashing up a dance near you. Scram!
